The Fachhochschule Münster (Münster University of Applied Sciences) is based in Münster/Westphalia and Steinfurt. The administration is accommodated in the Hüfferstiftung building. With around 9,400 students, twelve faculties and three central scientific units, Münster University of Applied Sciences is the fourth largest and one of the most strongly research-oriented universities of applied sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany. It receives the highest third-party funding of all higher education institutions in North-Rhine Westphalia, and is also one of the top higher education institutions in this category nationwide. It uses its potential as a Lisbon reference university for the further development of the knowledge-based society. A committee of experts on behalf of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and the Heinz Nixdorf Foundation selected Münster University of Applied Sciences to be one of four pilot universities in the support programme “Quality management in higher education” in 2008.
